Now, it’s a very hot season. Just like we need extra protection in this summer, the plant also needs some extra care. Some plants need no care in the summer season because they grow well in summer. But some plants grow well in winter. I will talk about how to care for your indoor plants in winter in another blog. These plants need some care to survive in the hot season. Here are some tips to take care of your plants in the summer season.
1. Water Regularly
Summer season watering is more important for plants than in winter. Because in the summer season the soil feels dry. Dry soil is not good for plants. So we should water our plants regularly. We should remember that watering less frequently is not better than watering plants daily. When the sun rises, the soil becomes warmer, and this time is not good for watering the plants. If you water the plants when the soil is warmer, the plants might die. So, we should water our plants daily at the same time. Morning is the best period for watering your plants. If you forget to water your plants, no problem. You can water them at night. Stop overwatering your plants. Overwatering is very harmful and is not good for plants.
2. Keep the Plants in the Right Place
It is true that sunlight is very important for plants, but they are happy with a moderate amount of sunlight. Most plants enjoy a bit of sunlight. Too much sunlight can cause the leaves to distress, so you shouldn’t put your plants in a bright sunny place. You should put them on a windowsill where sunlight stays for 4 to 5 hours. Also, you can put them in your room for a few hours. Following these steps can help keep potted plants cool in the hot season. When you see brown or bleached leaves and hardened soil, you need to understand that your plants need a place where direct sunlight doesn’t come in.
3. Repot the Plants
When the plants outgrow their tub and you want them to grow well, you should repot the plants. Every season is not perfect for repotting plants. Summer and spring seasons are the best times to repot your plant. When you repot your plant, it grows quickly.
4. Take Some Plants Outside
When a tree is healthy and happy, it reveals its beauty. We know that some plants are very happy with a lot of sunlight, like lemon trees and birds of paradise. For these, you should put them outside to enjoy the sunlight for a few days.
5. Humidity
Humidity plays an important role for plants. Each plant needs 40% to 60% humidity. Here are some tips to increase the humidity for your plants in the hot summer season:
- Use a humidifier.
- Create a microclimate.
- Use stone trays.
- Set plants in more humid rooms such as bathrooms or kitchens.
- Spray your plants frequently.
6. Use Fertilizer
To make your plant more youthful and alive, you can use fertilizer. You should mix fertilizer with a ratio. When you want higher foliage growth, use a higher ratio of nitrogen. Use fertilizer with more phosphorus for flowering plants. In summer and spring, plants actively grow, so it is very important for them to get fertilizer.
7. Pests in Summer
As the summer season is a growing season for plants, pest attacks can be very harmful. To remove pests from your plants, you can add a clove of garlic into the plant’s soil or use insecticidal soap in a spray bottle and spray it on the plant’s leaves and stems.
8. Do Not Keep Them Near Vents
In the summer season, you use air conditioning to feel cool. It is very helpful for you, but not for your plants. This cool air can dry your plant’s leaves.
9. Do Not Let Them Get Dusty
You must clean your plants. Failure to do so will damage your plant. Dust works as an interruption for photosynthesis. You can apply Earthcare white oil or spray water properly. Also, use a sponge to clean the plant’s leaves.
